"We just wanted to congratulate you on the Rockies' making it to the World Series"

That was the message my sweet Grandmother left on my voicemail yesterday. Isn't she cute?! :)

When I called her back, she and my grandfather got on the phone - at the same time - to talk with me. And, they went on and on about how, since their beloved Mets are out of the playoffs, they then decided to root for the Rockies - simply because I live in Denver. TOO CUTE.

I just find it hilarious that they're congratulating me on the Rockies amazing, surprising, run to get to the World Series. I'm really excited for them and thrilled about the energy and excitement that's taken over the city for this underdog team...but I, of course, had nothing to do with it. In fact, the only game that I've been to this season is the one game they've lost in the last 23 games. When I told my grandfather that, he said that I should make sure to NOT go to any of the games of the World Series...that I should make sure I'm only watching from home!

On a related note, the Rockies are quite spectacular this year. I've never been a huge baseball fan but I've only ever been to Rockies games - no other Major League games anywhere else in the country - and have always had a thing for them simply because they were the underdogs.

What's more exciting for me than how spectacularly they're playing right now is the character of the team. They've got this hard-working, non-trash-talking way of playing the game. And, it's such a team effort...there's no one superstar. Every member of their 25-man roster has contributed in fairly major ways to their winning thus far.

And, I just found out the other night that most of the team are Christians. (You can read about it here.) Now...I don't think that just because they're committed Christians means that they are going to win everything. It's not that way at all. In fact, their being predominantly Christians hasn't helped them be a good team for the past three years at all. If you follow baseball at all, you know that they've been quite terrible until now. But, I DO think that they have a remarkable platform and story to tell (you can read more about it in that article I reference above) and if they end up winning the World Series, it won't be just because they're Christians...but more because of the platform it'll give them to testify of what God's done in their lives individually. And, I guess, truth be told, even if they don't win...they've now got that platform already. But, I'm still pulling for them. I guess we'll see how it goes. GO ROCKIES!!!!
