Christmas Survey

These are the kind of surveys I like!

1. What is your favorite Christmas song?
Oh, Holy Night

2. What is your favorite Christmas movie or cartoon?
It's a Wonderful Life - but I must be watching it with a bunch of friends, all cozied-up with warm drinks and warm cookies.

3. What is your favorite treat/dessert during the holidays?
Stroofala (I have no idea if I spelled that correctly) - they're Italian "honey balls." Basically just fried dough in honey and sprinkled with candy toppings. Strangely addicting.

4. What is your favorite festive drink, alcoholic or non?
Cinnamon Dolce Latte - only at Starbucks during the winter.

Or, my grandma's Wassail. Yum!

5. Do you open your gifts Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
It's complicated - traditionally Christmas Eve but now it's sort of both...see #10 and #15 below

6. What is the best gift you ever received and from whom?
I can't really remember. I think I enjoy anything that indicates someone put a little thought into the gift - either something they've made homemade or something that shows they know me well. It doesn't have to be extravagant in anyway. Something that has meaning behind it always means more to me than just a gift for giving's sake.

7. What is one thing you are hoping to receive this year?
If I've not been cheesy yet, I'm about to be - the gifts are nice...but I'm much more excited to spend some time with my family. These days it's only once or twice a year so I cherish it.

8. Prefer dark meat or white?
Come on, folks, get a little more creative. Turkey's for Thanksgiving. Not Christmas too! In my family, it's all sorts of yummy fish dishes on Christmas Eve and then Lasagna on Christmas Day. My mouth is watering already....

9. Cranberry sauce or gravy?
Neither. Unless you (like my Italian family does) call tomato sauce "gravy"

10. If you're traveling during the holidays, when and where will you go?
I'm not even married yet and this is complicated. Traveling back east to NY/PA. Will spend a few days with my parents and siblings. Then, drive upstate NY on the 23rd. Spend a few days with my grandparents and extended family. Drive back to PA early on the 25th. Spend the day with the parents and siblings again. And drive to the airport THAT night to fly back to Denver.

11. Do you like to listen to Christmas music?
Um...yes....this year I've been listening to it since mid-October.

12. Do you decorate a fake or real tree?
Real! Real! Real! Always REAL! Love the scent of the pine. Makes everything FEEL like Christmas!

13. Describe one ornament on your tree or in your house that is very special to you ?
Don't really have one of any real significance. But, I think my dad has one that I made for him in 1st grade or something - it's a colored Christmas tree with a picture of me in it. I know, I'm cute....!

14. Do you open gifts neatly and slowly or do you tear them apart quickly?
Slowly.

We don't do this anymore...but I think I may do it when I have kids: when we were little, each person took turns opening one gift at a time, so that everyone could see what everyone else got. I loved it. Now, it's sort of a free-for-all and I hate that. Part of the joy of the holidays is the experience...not just the gifts.

15. Who do you normally spend Christmas day with?
Breakfast with my grandparents, rest of the day with my parents and siblings (oh, and the other passengers on the plane back to Denver that night)

16. Do you like to sing Christmas carols?
Of course! :) I like going caroling too....but haven't done that in years.

17. What's your favorite Christmas memory?
I have lots but one of the ones I miss the most is from high school. Each Christmas, a select group from my high school chorus would go to this really great museum (former governor's mansion) to sing the entire Christmas portion of Handel's Messiah. The acoustics and surroundings were beautiful. Gosh, I miss that!

I'm not going to tag anyone....but feel free to add this to your blog and even add more questions! :)
